ButterBurger coming to Marion

Thursday, February 19, 2009 » A groundbreaking ceremony took place on Tuesday, Feb. 17, announcing the opening of a Culver’s restaurant in Marion.

Culver’s is most famous for its “ButterBurgers,” and custard. Culver’s prides itself on the burgers, which are named for their lightly buttered hamburger buns and 100 percent U.S. beef.

Customers can also choose from 45 other menu items including tenderloin sandwiches and North American cod. For dessert, Culver’s premium custard has over 40 different toppings and mix-ins.

Rayme Swan, the owner of the Marion Culver’s, chose to make Marion the new location for the restaurant after much research and evaluation. Swan looked for a franchise that would fit well in the Marion community and line up with his own values.
“Culver’s is a very solid company and has never had a restaurant fail,” said Swan. “Culver’s mission statement is ‘Every guest that chooses Culver’s leaves happy.’ I, as an owner, make sure of it.”

As a result of Culver’s opening, over 40 jobs will be available for Marion citizens, according to Swan. As former department head for the city, Swan wants to use his venue to stay involved in the community.

Culver’s will open at 2307 South Western Avenue in late spring or early summer. Swan said the Western Avenue location was a conscious decision, with easy access to the highway, and proximity to Marion High School and Indiana Wesleyan University.

Many students are already familiar with the restaurant, from one of its 390 locations.

“We [eat there] every once in a while,” said Sarah Fife (jr) who goes to the Culver’s in her hometown of Fort Wayne. “It’s pretty good, but pretty unhealthy.”

Culver’s will provide a new place for students to get together within the Marion community. Less than two miles from campus, Culver’s may act as an alternative for local restaurants like Noah’s Sub Shop.

“Every once in a while I think people like to get off campus and experience the city,” said Fife.
